we are risk averse

A quote from Rem Koolhaas the curator of this year’s Venice Biennale. He explains how comfort has displaced bolder, riskier bigger ideals. What is an architecture of liberty, equality, brotherhood? Whatever it is, it’s a vastly more interesting ideal and will without question yield exponentially more interesting and valuable results.

I think we are absolutely becoming incredibly risk averse. And I think that we are currently operating on three values only: comfort, security and sustainability. They have basically replaced the French Liberte Egalite Fraternite. And I really don’t think that’s an improvement.
